The WAF (Huff System Five) From Huff Loudspeaker Co. Exotic driver technology Huff Loudspeaker Co is best known for our very high-end offerings, speaker systems costing $20,000 or more, usually paired with electronics of equal cost. But we know that many people must make serious sound system compromises, because of the wife, room/space constraints, or budget. So I decided to create a real-world system, at a price within reach of dedicated listeners that is wife-proof, room-placement-proof, and electronics-proof. This system is designed to sound great even when other factors are working against it. It is simply a fact of current technology that most of the distortion in a system comes from the speakers. Thus a greater than equal percent of your budget spent on speakers will usually provide better sound per dollar. To boldly prove the point, we paired the ($7995) System Five (nicknamed the WAF) at the recent CES Show with inexpensive electronics, so that total system cost is below $10,000 retail. For example, we used a modest $700 Creek amp. This is in contrast to other rooms, where you routinely hear $10,000 (or more) electronics driving $3000 speakers (resulting in inferior sound at a higher cost). Using great speakers and a good front end provides world-class sound at a relatively low price. The system is small, and looks absolutely gorgeous. It is also perfect for the office or bedroom too, where size may matter. Of course the system will sound much better with a great amp, cables, taller stands, stereo subs, etc! You can trade up to those later, but get the speakers right from the beginning and you will have better sound from day one on. The 3-piece combination Huff System Five (the WAF) retails for $7995. This is a bargain price for a true exotic driver system; ribbon tweeter flat to 40,000 Hz, ceramic mid-bass, and a great sub. (The sub has a woofer and amplifier we co-designed. It is an audiophile grade amp and 24 dB slope crossover, for both sub and satellites, an important feature not found in other subs.) |

The Huff Eight speaker is a two way full range speaker using the best of traditional driver technology, for those who want high end quality on a limited budget. The eight inch long throw woofer provides extended bass response so a subwoofer is not absolutely necessary (except for those who wish to experience the lowest octave of bass, or for high quality home theater applications). The high quality soft dome tweeter is very neutral, without the resonances typical of metal domes. (Not pictured.) |
