As a musician for many years, I am well aware of the limited quality of available pro sound speakers for live performances. I decided to do something about it, for myself and for the rest of you who have wanted a speaker system that sounds clearly better.
We now have two models available for musicians and performers who want the best.
We achieved this by using unique high-end drivers, rather than typical prosound drivers. They have far better transient response, frequency response, and noticeably less ringing than other pro sound speakers. Yet they have beefy suspensions that can take the punishment of live performance. We chose high quality crossover design and components too.
We used more ideal (and lower frequency) cabinet tuning than is used in other prosound boxes. Unbelievably, other manufacturers comparable pro sound cabinets are tuned far too high, usually to 45 50 Hz., in order to raise efficiency and decrease cabinet size with the less expensive drivers they use. This is true even for bass guitar speakers! Therefore the bottom few notes of most instruments are below the usable cabinet frequency range, resulting in a dirty sounding bottom end. This constant low frequency rumble coming from the out-of-phase woofer and port muddies up the rest of the higher frequencies as well.
All other 2 way prosound cabinets we have measured have a woofer that rolls off around 1000 Hz, crossed over to a horn that only performs well above 2000 Hz or higher. This results in poor and distorted sound in the critical 1-2k frequency range.
The 12 woofer we use has good frequency response up to 4000 Hz, so crossing over to the horn does not result in midrange distortion.
Both of these speakers are designed for bass, keyboard, acoustic instruments or guitar, voice, PA, or any live music reproduction where accuracy is desired. (In other words, they excel at everything except electric guitar, where speaker coloration and distortion is wanted as part of the overall sound.)
Bass players, for the first time you will hear your low E string and even the low B string cleanly (similar to when you play bass through a really good stereo, except you will be able to play a lot louder than that).
Note that it is a fact that if two speakers are playing at identical volume (measured in dB), but one is more distorted, then the distorted speaker will be perceived as slightly louder. We are all accustomed to hearing the bottom few notes reproduced with very high distortion, and a raspy throaty sound. In pro sound, low frequencies are rarely experienced any other way. It may take a little time for you to adjust to clear, accurate bass, but once you do you will never want to go back.
We all know how much boom and rumble most pro sound speakers have, and then most large rooms have such poor acoustics that the bass is further reduced to a muddy rumble. Now you can own speakers that play clean, so they do not exaggerate room problems. You will be amazed at the difference.
These speakers sound more like entry-level high-end stereo speakers than typical prosound speakers (except they are loud and efficient). They can also be used for stereo music reproduction, as monitors, etc. Note that if you want to take advantage of their potential to play very loud, you will want a power amplifier that can actually provide their rated RMS power continuously. If in doubt, call us for advice.
Because of the expense of producing these extremely high quality products, they are only available direct from Huff Loudspeaker Co. Yes, they do cost more, and they are worth it. Call to order.
